Rochester Healing
Rooms Make Room
for Healing
By Jennifer Zink (The Word Newspaper-August 2003)
Since opening in March 2002 hundreds of people have come to the Healing Rooms,
received prayer, and are said to have been miraculously healed in Jesus’ name
from sicknesses such as terminal cancer, back problems and mental problems.
Larry Magnello traveled from Pennsylvania to the Healing Rooms of Greater
Rochester to receive prayer for healing on May 20, 2003. He now testifies that
his feet that were once flat, now have arches; his feet that used to always be
cold, are warm; his throat, that years ago was partially crushed causing him to
choke when swallowing food, now allows him to eat large meals with no problems;
the ulcer in his esophagus is healed; and his hips that used to allow him to
only stand for a short time, are healed allowing him to stand indefinitely.
Bernie and Kathy Hartman of North Chili give glory to God for miraculously
healing Bernie’s internal bleeding, Kathy’s Irritable Bowel Syndrome and healing
their relationship with their daughter-in-law after being prayed for at the
Healing Rooms of Greater Rochester.
The Healing Rooms are located in down town Webster, 23 W. Main St., in what used
to be an orthodontist office, but unlike the orthodontist, no appointment is
necessary. This ministry is offered free of charge, with the understanding that
Jesus is the one who does the healing, not the ministers. Ministry times are
Tuesday 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday 10 to 3 p.m.
Each patient checks-in with the receptionist when they come in, much like a
medical office. The difference is that in a separate room there are people
praying and interceding for each patient that walks in for an appointment. In
each of three Healing Rooms, teams of three intercessors minister to patients
through prayer, as they are lead by the Holy Spirit. Patients are encouraged to
continue medical treatment and medications unless instructed otherwise by their
physician. Patients may come back for prayer as many times as they choose until
healed.
The emphasis of the program is first on salvation and the person, then on
healing. Bill O’Marra, Director of the Healing Rooms with his wife, Betty, says
many of the problems patients come in with stem from trauma that occurred to
them earlier in life causing them to be vulnerable to evil things that with time
are shown through physical sickness. Evil things, for example such as:
unforgiveness, bitterness, anger, depression.
The Healing Rooms of Greater Rochester are a member of the International
Association of Healing Rooms (I.A.H.R.), based out of Spokane, Washington.
Spokane is where John
G. Lake originally launched the Healing Rooms ministry in 1912. I.A.H.R. is an
interdenominational ministry, made up of people who believe that by the wounds
of Jesus we are healed. Everyone who participates in this ministry is required
to go through training sessions, and have a pastoral reference. In Rochester 14
churches have members involved in this unique and amazing ministry. For more
